Egypt’s Elsewedy Group Chairman Inspects China’s Smart Cities and Building Materials & Home Furnishing Industries to Deepen China-Egypt Cooperation in Multiple Fields

December 4, 2025, Ahmed Elsewedy, Chairman of Egypt’s Elsewedy Group, and his delegation conducted inspection and exchange visits in Beijing and the Xiong’an New Area. The purpose of the trip was to engage with China’s advanced experience and technologies in the fields of new smart city construction, new energy infrastructure, and the building materials & home furnishing industry chain, aiming to promote in-depth China-Egypt cooperation in related sectors. Accompanied by Wu Chuanyan, Chairman of DigiLight Group, the delegation visited several leading Chinese enterprises and institutions including PowerChina, Xiong’an Group Digital City Technology Company, China Recycling Resources Group, China Building Material Market Association, Easyhome Group, and NVC Lighting, reaching multiple cooperation consensuses.

Deepening Energy and Infrastructure Cooperation, Expanding Digital New City Construction

The first stop of the inspection was at the headquarters of PowerChina. Chen Guanfu, Vice President of PowerChina, along with leaders from PowerChina International, Sinohydro Bureau 11, and East China Engineering Corporation, warmly received Chairman Elsewedy and his delegation. Both sides reviewed their successful history of cooperation in hydropower, thermal power, and new energy projects across Africa and Asia. The discussions focused on the application of digital economy and artificial intelligence technologies in the construction of new smart cities and new energy infrastructure. In the future, leveraging China’s advanced digital technology and AI solutions, the two parties will jointly advance smart city and smart energy projects in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East, further solidifying their strategic partnership.

Learning from Xiong’an Experience, Jointly Charting a Blueprint for Smart Cities

In the Xiong’an New Area, the delegation visited the Xiong’an New Area Start-up Zone Exhibition Center, the Xiong’an Computing Center (“Eye of Xiong’an”), the Xiong’an PowerChina Wisdom Hub City, and Xiong’an Group Digital City Technology Co., Ltd. They held talks with relevant officials including Yang Zhong, former Engineering Director of Xiong’an Group and Chairman of Digital City Company, and Ma Jisheng, General Manager of Xiong’an Xiongchuang Technology Company. After eight years of construction, the Xiong’an New Area has taken initial shape, covering an area of 210 square kilometers with a total floor area of approximately 58 million square meters. Its integrated urban planning concept of “cloud, above ground, and underground,” along with a series of internationally leading practices such as digital twin cities, smart city CIM systems, smart transportation, smart utility tunnels, and smart management and operation, left a deep impression on Chairman Elsewedy and his senior management team. This visit has subsequently promoted cooperation between the two sides in the field of smart city construction in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East.

Focusing on Circular Economy, Jointly Building a Green Industry Chain

The delegation then visited China Recycling Resources Group and held talks with its Chairman, Xing Hongwei. As a subsidiary of the All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives and a main force in China’s renewable resource recovery and utilization, the group possesses a comprehensive system and rich experience in the field of resource recycling. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including the recycling and processing of scrap copper, waste household appliances, used batteries, end-of-life vehicles, and electronic waste, as well as the construction of circular economy industrial parks. They reached a strategic cooperation consensus to jointly promote resource security and the development of the green circular industry.

Integrating the Home and Building Materials Industry Chain, Supporting the Global Expansion of “China Construction”

Accompanied by Ding Lizhong, Secretary of the China Building Material Market Association, He Yong, Vice President of Easyhome Group, and Wu Chuanyan, Chairman of DigiLight Group, Chairman Elsewedy and his delegation inspected the Easyhome Beijing Yuquanying flagship store. An exchange meeting was subsequently held at the Global Financial Information Center for thematic discussions on the global expansion of China’s building materials and home furnishing industry chain. The Elsewedy Group is engaged in large-scale smart city construction in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East. Through strategic cooperation with the China Building Material Market Association, Easyhome Group, and DigiLight Group, they plan to jointly establish an industrial collaboration platform. This includes plans to introduce a Chinese integrated housing overseas headquarters base in Egypt and to collaborate with Easyhome to jointly explore markets in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East. The cooperation will encompass the entire industry chain, including Chinese building standards, prefabricated construction, integrated housing, kitchen and bathroom appliances, building materials, furniture, and smart home products, aiming to support infrastructure construction, real estate development, and post-war reconstruction in the region.

Successful Completion of the Itinerary, Comprehensive Advancement of Strategic Cooperation

This inspection itinerary was fully coordinated and organized by DigiLight Group and received high praise from Chairman Elsewedy. He affirmed DigiLight Group’s capabilities in industrial resource integration, innovative concepts for industry chains, its industrial operation team, and its international cooperation model. Both sides will comprehensively advance their strategic cooperation. He expressed admiration for China’s achievements in urban construction, technological innovation, and corporate strength, believing that the innovation direction of Chinese enterprises highly aligns with his group’s global strategies in energy transition, smart cities, ESG, and international cooperation. Both sides will take this visit as an opportunity to fully promote the implementation of strategic cooperation.

DigiLight Group, by building industrial cooperation platforms and integrating industry chain resources, has explored a new model of “joint innovation by enterprises to explore international markets.” This China-Egypt industrial engagement not only achieves business win-win outcomes between enterprises but also serves as a vivid practice of implementing the “Belt and Road” Initiative, deepening cooperation within the “Global South,” and promoting collaborative innovation in Chinese and foreign industry chains. All parties look forward to the early implementation of cooperation results, injecting new momentum into the common development of China, Egypt, and broader regions.
